Sunday 15th April - Istanbul to Cappadocia

Today was a major day of driving for about 11 hours (not including stops) to our next hotel in the region of Cappadocia. On the way we stopped at the capital city Ankara for lunch and to visit the Anatolian Civilisation Musuem and the Ataturk Musoleum (above) where Ataturk himself has been buried. Ataturk is a very popular man here. His face is on all the money notes (below - we can't decide if he looks like 007 or Dracula) and there's statues and pictures of him everywhere!!

We arrived outside the Musoleum to find police standing around in riot gear... Turns out there was a big political rally the day before and they were there just in case... We got there just in time for the changing of the guards which is all very serious and if you get in their way, look out!!
It was 8pm and snowing when we finally got to out hotel and had dinner. Although I've been napping on the bus most the day I'm having an early night so I can get up super early for hot air ballooning tomorrow...
We're starting to notice alot of Turkish flags everywhere... Very patriotic bunch these Turks...
