I get a fly - at last!!

Well, after several long torturous weeks of no flying I finally managed to get in the air today. The pic on the left is Merryweather launch site and the beach is my landing zone. More advanced pilots can top land at this site and I long for the day to be able to do this coz I tell you now it ain't fun landing all the way down on the beach and carrying it back... If you look carefully at the beach, you will see where another glider has landed.

I wasn't happy with todays flight for a number of reasons but mainly I think (well, I know) I'm just being too hard on myself. Sadly, my profession and former lifestyle (and being a girl) has ingrained in me the need to be perfect and when I come up short, I'll berate myself more than neccessary. So, I'll concentrate on the good things about the flight and the fact it was still a fantastic day. Many thanks to Donny, Tony and Stewie for making today possible. =)

This was poor Jess this morning... she looked so sad...

The best way to spend a Sunday...

Another brilliant day in sunny Newcastle saw us trekking inland and up to Brokenback Mountain (???) in the Hunter winery region. From here about 15 hang gliding pilots leapt off with the intention of heading to Ellalong Pub for a late lunch.

I volunteered to drive for Jonny, Tommy, Cameron and Ray (Chainsaw) and was later pleased to find that although they all landed in different places, I didn't have to venture too far into red neck country to find them!! Even Chainsaw...

While only a couple actually made it to Ellalong, everyone had a great time and I can't wait to be able to launch from BB too!! Well done to the pilots who made it back to Empire Park - which is back on the beach at Newy!!!

Above pic is of Donny and his "great equipment" at launch.

Australia Day

Yesterday 26th Jan was Australia Day and thanks to me good mate Wazza I was fortunate enough to spend the day on his boat, cruising around Gosford and Woy Woy.

After the rain cleared away, the man upstairs gave us a beautiful day and some sweet wind to put the sails up in.

The picture here is me standing in front of Wazza's Boxing Kangaroo spinnaker.

Thanks for a great day Spud!!

A bit about me...

Hi All!!

Lately my life has been a complete roller coaster ride. Lucky for me I love roller coasters so I've sat back, gotten comfortable and enjoyed one hell of an awesome ride. Even luckier for me, there doesn't seem to be an end to this wicked ride in the near future.

Last year I made the decision to hit the road and experience some of what else this planet has to offer. I sold my house, left my job and set off on this fantastic journey of discovering more about myself and the world and although I left many loved ones back in Perth, not for one day have I regretted my decision.

After driving from Perth to Newcastle, I have been residing in Newy and enjoying this beautiful little gold mine of a town. I've had several little adventures since being here and have done many things I would never of dreamt of before. My biggest accomplishment so far has been to learn hang gliding... The experiences and opportunities I've had with this incredible sport continue to amaze me as do the people involved. What a fantastic, friendly, encouraging, dedicated community to belong to!!!

In February I will be jetting off to Europe with the ultimate goal of being in Gallipoli for Anzac Day. This blog has been set up to follow my journey - i guess as a diary for me and amusement perhaps for anyone else =)

One thing I know for sure - I'm not about to start screaming "Get me off this ride!!" any time soon...
